Buddy Comedies - An Underappreciated and Misunderstood Genre

I must have five trillion movie channels available in my current cable package, so of all the film channels in all the world, stumbling onto "retroplex" was no surprise.

They don't have the same type of thematic unity as TCM, so telling you that they showed Some Like It Hot today won't point you towards more Jack Lemmon comedies, nor will it thread you into something with Tony Curtis, or even keep you in the Marilyn Monroe mood. No, they're moving straight to a film version of Jane Eyre. . .

But anyway, this got me thinking about the "buddy comedy" that was done so well by the Jack Lemmon types during the 50's & early 60's and is coming back, albeit SLOWLY and shabbily, in the Ben Stiller-Owen Wilson-Vince Vaughan types today.

What's your favorite "buddy comedy"?

That's a hard one, especially if you're talking about that era. Probably one of my favorite is The Odd Couple.

Actually, now that I think about it, almost anything with Jack and Walter is ok in my book.
