I don't cry...

But even I get teary-eyed watching certain movies. Even ones where I know the entire plot, script, etc. A perfect example, I was watching Pollyanna for the millionth time today, and I got choked up, especially when young Pollyanna yelled at Mrs. Snow about how she always thinks about dying. That, and the end scene, my eyes mist.

What movies choke you up? They don't have to be Disney or Drama, it can be romantic movies.

Buddy Comedies - An Underappreciated and Misunderstood Genre

I must have five trillion movie channels available in my current cable package, so of all the film channels in all the world, stumbling onto "retroplex" was no surprise.

They don't have the same type of thematic unity as TCM, so telling you that they showed Some Like It Hot today won't point you towards more Jack Lemmon comedies, nor will it thread you into something with Tony Curtis, or even keep you in the Marilyn Monroe mood. No, they're moving straight to a film version of Jane Eyre. . .

But anyway, this got me thinking about the "buddy comedy" that was done so well by the Jack Lemmon types during the 50's & early 60's and is coming back, albeit SLOWLY and shabbily, in the Ben Stiller-Owen Wilson-Vince Vaughan types today.

What's your favorite "buddy comedy"?

Is This For Real?

Even if it's not, it's a super-great hack.

Viacom UPDATE!

Fuck.

They ousted Sumner Redstone because the stock fell and the rest of the board of investors disagreed with his public Tom Cruise-bashing.

All my prior delusions about ousting Cruise and Gibson are now shattered and I have nothing left of my schadenfreude but the celebratory diet ginger ale that I popped open to celebrate.

This sucks and so does Tom Cruise.
