Summer Movie Extravaganza!
OK, so this summer, unlike last summer, actually has a slate of "popcorn movies" that I actually WANT to see.
This is exciting, considering the fact that it almost NEVER happens.
So, I've already seen Iron Man, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian ... and loved every minute of them. For "popcorn movies," they're incredibly well-acted and, even where the script is lacking, they're not butt-numbingly lame.
Coming up later this summer are Wanted, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, WALL*E and Mamma Mia!
Am I crazy to want to see them????
I don't think I am. They look genuinely good. So does the American Girl movie about Kit. (I would feel super-creepy to go see it without a small child in tow, though. Where can I rent one???)
Of course, there are some real dogs in the slate as well, judging from the previews...like You Don't Mess With the Zohan (an unredeemingly silly-looking Adam Sandler comedy ... which I might catch when it makes its way to cable) or The Happening (the latest from M. Night Shyamalan ... the trailers make it look like a steaming pile of dog crap ... and this is coming from someone who enjoyed three of his other films; I think he's better than this) or Beverly Hills Chihuahua (no offense to anyone who loves the creepy little things, but I feel that chihuahas have less appeal than rats.)
Ewww. I get the creepy-crawlies (and the heebie-jeebies) from movies like those.
