This Week's New Releases
While I still haven't seen the first 2 movies in the Saw franchise, the 3rd movie opened last week and I thought about picking up the other 2 on DVD at Target. . .but, as usual, I didn't check the price before making the decision to pass them up.
Anyway there's a much-hyped pair of films out this week:
BORAT: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (Review: "From Kazakhstan, Without a Clue" by Manohla Dargos, who usually doesn't appreciate this kind of thing)
AND
Volver (Review: "The Darkest of Troubles in the Brightest of Colors" by A.O. Scott, who tends to be one of my favorite reviewers at the venerable Times)
Because the latter has Penelope Cruz in it I'm curious, but have never seen another Pedro Almodovar film. This might be a problem.
As far as the first film, I heard one of Borat's radio-circuit interviews, caught the tail-end of one of his TV spots and really cracked up listening to him. The man behind Borat, Sacha Baron Cohen, is an evil comedic genius.
